From the Horse’s    Mouth

Christmas 2019

Issue 36 of the E-newsletter of

The Racehorse Sanctuary

All the horses would like to send you their best wishes for Christmas.

We would like to wish all our generous and loyal supporters the very best for Christmas.

All the horses in the Sanctuary’s care at Mulsey Farm have sent you their own Christmas card for you to enjoy: please click HERE – it is safe to open.

They have been very good again this year!

Two lovely stories came too late for our last major update on the horses.

Graham reports: “Lucky old Radical - I say old but he is only a 12-years old - has really fallen on his feet.  This lovely chap is now living with Sue and Kevin in West Sussex and has another sanctuary horse in 19-year old Jack (Business Traveller) as his new found mate.
Over the years this really has proven to be a first-class home with exceptional levels of horse care being carried out by both Sue and Kevin: I can envisage Radical living the perfect hassle free horsey life to a ripe old age here, he deserves it.

According to Graham, The Hierophant has come up trumps.  “This stunning horse, Aero as we call him, is now living in Wiltshire with Ellys and has taken the relocation with ease.
As Aero is only 4 years old, Ellys plans to give him until the springtime before she starts him under saddle again.  This will give both of them time to bond on the ground and allow him to be confident in his new surroundings.  This is obviously working already as you can see in the picture of Ellys, her baby daughter and him going out for a stroll together.  Aero really is a show stopper and if all goes well Ellys intends doing local shows and low key eventing, when they both feel ready.  Watch this space as this horse has serious potential to go on and Ellys is more than capable.”

In this social media age a picture can be worth more than 1,000 words.

Photographer Emma took this wonderful picture of the pensive eye of one of our Senior Citizens at Mulsey Farm, which we have used as the icon for our Christmas/Winter Appeal this year.

Not to be outdone Derek, who won our MissNoName Competition with his clever choice of Amaze the Boys, has photographed a number of the Sanctuary horses in his inimitable style and has kindly granted us permission to use them to help raise the profile of the charity.  Here is a photo of yard boss Warrior, one of a pair he entered as a 3-D version in a fun competition at the November London meeting of the Stereoscopic Society, entitled Bad Hair Day, and which was voted runner-up.  Derek: we really appreciate your informal and unusual style

Sarah who fosters Blossom for us in North Yorkshire earns the keep of her horses and dogs working as a free-lance journalist.  She has been exchanging riding lessons for a local photographer in exchange for sharpening her own skills behind the camera.  However, is Sarah perhaps taking the informal and unusual style too far?  She will be pleased to know Derek thinks her efforts are great.
